Milton is a town of 100,000 people in the middle of Ontario’s prosperous and highly industrialized Golden Horseshoe region. In 2006 and 2011, Milton was the fastest-growing town in Canada; its population has tripled in the past 15 years.
Milton is smaller and more rural than its lakefront neighbour, the town of Oakville. The 401, Canada’s busiest highway, travels through Milton, which is situated at the foot of the Niagara Escarpment.
As befits a town that has grown so quickly, Milton has to deal with many of the issues of rapid urbanization, including the demand for more infrastructure for roads, education, health care, and law enforcement.
Milton is part of the Regional Municipality of Halton, which comprises the City of Burlington and the towns of Oakville, Milton and Halton Hills. Halton Region, with a population of 600,000, is one of the fastest-growing regions in the country, and was ranked by Maclean’s magazine as the “safest place to live in the GTA”, and one the safest in Canada.
The crime rate in Milton has been falling in recent years, in keeping with national trends. In 2011, the crime rate in Oakville was 2,659 crimes per 100,000 population, consisting mainly of property crime (1,628 per 100,000) over violent crime (615 per 100,000). DUI/drinking and driving offences comprise 50 per 100,000 people (source: HRPS).
The Town of Milton is run from its Town Hall at 1225 Trafalgar Rd., and served by the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS), whose Headquarters is located at 2485 North Service Road West in Milton.

Milton Courthouse
There are two related substations in Acton and Georgetown.
