Etobicoke is a sprawling region of Toronto, located in the western section of the city. Made famous by the Ford family of politicians, Etobicoke covers a large territory and encompasses a diverse population of 350,000 people. Etobicoke is heavily industrialized, and boasts a dense network of major highways, including the 427, the 401, the 407 and the QEW. The local mall, which is expanding, is at Sherway Gardens.
Like Scarborough and North York, Etobicoke lost its status as an independent municipality in Toronto’s amalgamation in 1998. Its former city hall at 399 The West Mall, near Burnhamthorpe, is now a civic centre.
Etobicoke is served by two large division of the Toronto Police Service:

Etobicoke Courthouse
The Etobicoke courthouse used to be located on The East Mall in the southern part of Etobicoke. After health concerns were raised about hazardous mould, the courthouse was temporarily moved to 2201 Finch Avenue West, just down the road from the North York courthouse at 1000 Finch Ave. West. Despite plans for a new courthouse (which were shelved by the Rob Ford administration at City Hall), the Etobicoke courthouse remains on Finch Ave. It is cleaner and more modern than the Scarborough and North York courts, but it is difficult to reach for many of Etobicoke’s southern residents. The courthouse also lacks meeting spaces for lawyers and clients, and is often very crowded. However, there are some very good judges and a reasonable Crown’s office, which provide defendants with a good chance to receive fair justice.
One of the features of the Etobicoke courthouse is a specialized courtroom for the conduct of complex trials, including organized crime and homicide cases with multiple defendants in custody.
Superior Court cases from Etobicoke are managed in the Superior Court downtown at 361 University Ave.
